HRC documents Governor Pence’s discriminatory views. Watch, and take action today.
Yesterday, I watched Indiana Governor Mike Pence on “This Week” with George Stephanopoulos, and my blood is boiling. He repeatedly refused to answer George’s question on whether or not Indiana’s shameful new law provided a license to discriminate.
What is happening in Indiana is outrageous – in fact, it is down right scary. Thanks to Governor Pence, who last week signed the Religious Freedom Restoration Act (RFRA) into law, Indiana business owners who object to same-sex couples for religious reasons will now have a legal right to deny them goods and services.
Your voice will join a chorus of outrage including Hillary Clinton, Apple CEO Tim Cook, retired NBA star Jason Collins, and dozens of companies like Angie’s List, who have taken a bold and visible stand against legalized discrimination in the Hoosier state.
As criticism of the new law mounted, Governor Pence announced that he would seek new legislation “clarifying” the law.
But his “clarification” is phony unless it guarantees explicit non-discrimination protections for LGBT Hoosiers and includes a clear civil rights carve-out within the RFRA.
As the governor of a state, Mike Pence is signaling discrimination is okay. He must stop. Take action: tell Mike Pence to reverse his position. It’s time for him to uphold the values of fairness and equality for the people of Indiana.
As an HRC supporter, I’m sure you understand how critical this particular situation is. While this law pertains to Indiana – it reflects the rising tide of dangerous anti-LGBT legislation we are witnessing. Right now more than 100 anti-LGBT bills or constitutional amendments have been introduced in 28 states. HRC is fighting each and every one. But we need your help.
